One more week to go until the successful pop-up restaurant Foyer in Amsterdam will close its doors.

With the high ornamented ceilings, the big windows and the wooden floors the interior of the beautiful Felix Meritis building doesn’t really need any more styling. The few added details to remind us of Ramses Shaffy somehow give it a playful touch and make it less stately.

But the focus is on the food. We had the 3-course lunch menu filled with local Dutch ingredients and lots of vegetables. We started off with a salad with salsify, turnip tops, dried savoy cabbage, string beans and Messeklever goats cheese. Light, seemingly simple, but very well balanced. Followed by a cauliflower soup with pistachio and piment and a main dish with asparagus, egg, chervil, morille and Jerusalem artichoke. We replaced one of the main dishes for a piglet sandwich with sauerkraut and dill. All accompanied by delicious, interesting (sulfite-free) wines made it a very relaxed and tasteful Sunday lunch. A cheesecake to finish our meal with wouldn’t be our first choice cause usually we’re not too keen on these heavy cakes. We finished this one in a second though and I would’t mind having another one right now.

I’m glad I visited Foyer while it’s still here. Do you have the chance to visit the pop-up this upcoming last week? Take it. The evening menu also looked very promising! Or wait until May, when owners Merijn van Berlo and Figo van Onna will open their new restaurant at another location in an industrial building on the Ruyterkade in Amsterdam. I will definitely make sure to visit them there as well!
