To be honest, my first encounter with Mexican food wasn’t a very good one. I was eight years old when my parents took us to a Mexican restaurant. The result: I went home crying. Because of the jalapenos and a stomache ache of all the melted cheese. I swore never to eat this cuisine again.
But then I found restaurant Tacombi at Fonda Nolita in New York. Not only one of the coolest places I’ve been, but also a true tast explosion. A Volkswagen food truck parked in the middle of the restaurant serving micheladas (Mexican beer with lime, salt and chili) gives the place a summer festival feeling. I tried the delicious corns esquites with chipotle mayo and a fresh beetroot/strawberry/ginger juice. Leaving Tacombi I know what I have to do now: go as soon as possible to the origin of this fiesta. Who wants to join me on a food trip to Mexico?! You can find their menu online and when you visit New York check out Cafe el Presidente (by the same owners) as well. Tacombi at Fonda Nolita 267 Elizabeth Street, New York
